Committees at Mount Tabor
Social Action Ministry
Chair: Casey White
What We Do
“God’s work. Our hands.” Mount Tabor has a long tradition of living out this call to discipleship. As Lutherans, we believe that God’s saving grace frees us to serve one another and to be God’s hands in a hurting world.
The Social Action Ministry partners with community organizations and programs to respond to hunger, homelessness, and other needs in our community through direct service, giving, and advocacy.
How You Can Help
There are many ways to get involved:
● Serve dinner at St. Vincent de Paul Center on the second Tuesday of each month from 4:30–6:30 p.m.
● Sort food at the Utah Food Bank on the first Saturday of each month from 10:00–11:30 a.m.
● Distribute USDA commodity food boxes to low-income seniors in our neighborhood on the third Wednesday of each month from 1:00–2:30 p.m. at Mount Tabor.
● Provide meals for families through Family Promise as they prepare to transition into homes of their own. Watch the church newsletter for upcoming dates.
● Advocate for neighbors experiencing hunger and homelessness through FACE Hunger and Homelessness, a program of Crossroads Urban Center, including opportunities to gather at the Utah State Capitol.
● Donate nonperishable food to the Crossroads Urban Center food barrel in the church narthex.

Emergency & Food Assistance Ministry
Chair: Casey White
What We Do
As a community that cares for one another, we know there are times when members of our congregation may need a little extra help. Through the generosity of Mount Tabor members, the Emergency & Food Assistance Program provides confidential support to members experiencing financial hardship.
The program provides grocery gift cards to a small number of households experiencing food insecurity, as well as limited assistance for larger one-time needs such as rent, utilities, or deposits. Requests are reviewed by a small committee, and the identities of recipients are kept strictly confidential.
How You Can Help
You can support this ministry by:
● Donating to the Emergency & Food Assistance Program through Mount Tabor’s online giving page.
● Supporting our annual Sloppy Joe Lunch fundraiser.
● Serving as a member of the committee.
Want to Join?
If you would like to help sustain this ministry of care, contact Casey White or the church office.
Need assistance? If you are a Mount Tabor member in need of support, please contact the pastor. All requests are handled confidentially.
Congregational Life Ministry
Chair: Becki Kaiser
What We Do
The Congregational Life Ministry creates opportunities for our community to gather, celebrate, and grow together in Christ. Throughout the year, we help make Mount Tabor a place where people can build relationships, share a meal, and enjoy being together, build relationships, share a meal, and enjoy being together beyond Sunday worship.
We organize Sunday coffee fellowship, potlucks, birthday and anniversary celebrations, and special seasonal and church holiday gatherings.
How You Can Help
Hospitality takes many hands! You can:
● Help set up or clean up for a congregational event.
● Bring food to a potluck or special gathering.
● Help with Sunday coffee fellowship.
● Assist with a seasonal celebration.
● Join the committee and help plan upcoming events.
You don’t have to make a long-term commitment to participate—volunteers are always welcome to help with individual events.

Worship & Music Ministry
Chair: Jenny Jensen
What We Do
Ever wonder how we choose the hymns we sing or plan worship for each season of the church year? That’s where the Worship & Music Ministry Team comes in!
We meet monthly to explore liturgical resources, plan for upcoming seasons and celebrations, and choose music for Sunday worship. Together, we consider how scripture, music, prayer, and the rhythms of the church year can work together to shape meaningful worship.
We also get a little nerdy about worship! We dig into the church calendar, discover new music and prayers, revisit old favorites, and ask questions about why we worship the way we do.
How You Can Help
You don’t need to be a musician or liturgy expert to participate. Curiosity—and opinions about hymns!—are more than enough qualification.
Team members can help:
● Plan worship for upcoming seasons of the church year.
● Explore and recommend hymns, prayers, and other liturgical resources.
● Bring ideas and perspectives about our congregation’s worship life.
● Help prepare for special services and celebrations.
Want to Join?
New voices are always welcome. Contact Jenny Jensen or the church office, and we’ll get you connected.
