Our Life Together

At Mount Tabor:

If you have ever been curious about Mount Tabor's Small Group Brewing Ministry (SGBM) Sunday November 8th after our worship service is the time to find out!  We will be brewing a Christmas ale at Mount Tabor. The entire process will take about 2 hours. At the beginning we will give a brief explanation of the brewing process and the style of beer we will be brewing. You're welcome to come for the start and depart as you desire or stay for the whole thing. The less you know about brewing, the more you are encouraged to attend.  This is a great time to share fellowship with our siblings in Christ and find out what Katie Luther's ministry was all about.  If you have any questions please feel free to talk to Dave Warren - Mount Tabor Brewmaster or Chris Jensen - Brewmasters apprentice

Jarrett Wheatley, Euphonium, will be giving a concert: J.S. Bach: In Darkness and Light, at Mount Tabor on Thursday, Nov. 19, at 7PM. All proceeds will be going to benefit the Crossroads Urban Center.

Mount Tabor will be having a special Thanksgiving Eve worship service at 7PM on Weds, November 25. Join us for worship and for pie directly after.

We are creating a Tabor photo archive! If you take photos during/of Tabor events and activities, please send them in to Kristin at office@mttaborslc.org.

Jubilee USA Monthly Calls

Dear Mount Tabor Lutheran Church,

This is Robert Ladao, the Development and Executive Associate for Jubilee this spring.

With the United States preparing to host the first G20 since 2009, Jubilee efforts are shaping key conversations on the global agenda. As we look ahead, we are mobilizing Jubilee faith communities and congregations to press world leaders to make stronger commitments on debt relief for global economic stability, job growth and poverty alleviation at home and abroad.

We conduct these preparations in our monthly congregation calls, the first Tuesday of every month at 1:00 p.m. ET. Click here to register for a Zoom link for our call next Tuesday: https://us06web.zoom.us/meeting/register/DlaSUEPRRXGsU1TZd7Rx9Q

These sermons will continue monthly as part of our lead-up to December’s G20 and our Jubilee pilgrimage to Miami. Together, we can ready our hearts, deepen our relationships, and discern how we are called to faithful public witness on debt relief.

Gratefully,

Robert Ladao

re:  Multi-faith letter supporting full funding for Medicaid in the state budget

To the Honorable Governor Cox,

We are writing to you as people from a variety of faith and ethical traditions who share a common belief that every human being has value and that every person in our state should be able to obtain basic medical care.  Media reports state that Utah is facing a deficit of $200 million in the Medicaid program that will need to be addressed during the 2027 session of the Utah Legislature.  This problem is potentially going to be worsened by the imposition of new work and participation requirements for some Medicaid enrollees which will increase administrative costs for the program.

As you prepare your Budget for the upcoming fiscal year we urge you to include funding to eliminate the current deficit in the Utah’s Medicaid Program and increase funding to cover the administrative costs of work and participation requirements.  We also ask you to convene a meeting of faith, charitable, education and business leaders to discuss how we can create volunteer, employment and training opportunities to help people to comply with the new Medicaid work and participation requirements.

We will be happy to meet with you as soon as possible to discuss how we can support you in moving forward with the ideas in this letter.  Thank you for your commitment to public service on behalf of all Utahns.

Sincerely,.

THE AGENDA FOR OUR MEETING NEXT WEEK

FACE Hunger and Homelessness's monthly meeting will take place next week on Wednesday, October 7, at noon, on Zoom. Topics we will discuss at the meeting include:

  • Making a plan to present our Medicaid Budget Sign-On Letter to the Governor's staff on October 12,

  • Making a list of questions we have for state officials about how nonprofits can help people stay on Medicaid through helping them get volunteer or other participation hours,

  • Beginning to plan for our Rally for Medicaid on January 14,

  • Brainstorming how we can collect and share photos of people showing support for Medicaid before the rally.

If you have ideas about any of these topics that you would like to share with me before the meeting please do so!

PLAN TO ATTEND THE RALLY FOR MEDICAID ON THE UTAH CAPITOL BUILDING STEPS ON JANUARY 14, 2027 AT NOON

Inflation and an aging population are driving up Medicaid costs in states all over the country.  We are organizing the Rally for Medicaid to remind our elected officials that Medicaid saves lives and prevents unnecessary pain and suffering in Utah and needs to be fully funded. LEARN MORE
