We are creating a Tabor photo archive! If you take photos during/of Tabor events and activities, please send them in to Kristin at office@mttaborslc.org.
Advocacy, Service, and Volunteerism:
Family Promise dinner dates: Mount Tabor will be providing dinners on Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, Friday and brunch on Saturday for the following weeks at Christ United Methodist Church (2375 E 3300S): September 13 - 19. This is a great opportunity to show God’s love to unhoused Families. If you have any questions about being a volunteer, please let me know. ~Chris Jensen, Family Promise Coordinator
The Endowments and Memorials Committee would like to receive applications for the Tabor Scholarship from active members starting or continuing post-high school education. Applications can be found on the Tabor website shortly. They can be submitted electronically to the office@mttaborslc.org or sent by mail to the office, with "Attention Scholarship Application" in the subject line. Please have submissions to the office by October 1, 2026.
Announcements for the bulletin, including names for the prayer roll, are due by Wednesdays at 11AM. Any prayer roll names submitted after the deadline will be included in the following Sunday's bulletin.
Crossroads Urban Center's Thrift Store at 1385 West Indiana Avenue, Salt Lake City needs your donations! Summer is a great time to clear out closets, drawers and other places to help them out. Stop by during their operating hours, no appointment is necessary, Tuesday through Saturday, from 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM at 1385 West Indiana Avenue, Salt Lake City. Let them know you are from Mt. Tabor! Recurring Tabor Meetings:
The Worship and Music Ministry Committee will meet Sunday, September 6 at 6:30PM on Zoom.

“Dinner at Vinnies” is Tuesday, September 8th from 4:30-6:30PM at the St. Vincent dePaul Dining Hall at the Weigand Center downtown. Come share our hospitality with our hungry neighbors. Please see Casey White with questions.
Utah Food Bank - We will be sorting food at the Utah Food Bank Saturday September 19 from 10am to Noon.
Our Senior Food Box Distribution of Utah Food Bank USDA food boxes to seniors in our neighborhood is set for Wednesday, September 23rd.

Worship & Music Ministry
Ever wonder how we choose the hymns we sing or plan worship for each season of the church year? That’s where the Worship & Music Ministry Team comes in!
We meet monthly to explore liturgical resources, plan for the seasons and celebrations ahead, and choose the songs for each Sunday’s worship. Together, we think about how scripture, music, prayer, and the rhythms of the church year can work together to shape meaningful worship.
It’s also a chance to get a little nerdy about worship! We dig into the church calendar, discover new music and prayers, revisit old favorites, and ask questions about why we worship the way we do. You definitely don’t need to be a musician or liturgy expert - curiosity and opinions about hymns are more than enough qualification.
October is an especially good time to jump in, because we’ll begin planning for Advent and the start of a new church year. If you’d like to join the Worship & Music Ministry Team, reach out to the church office and we’ll get you connected.

The wait is over; tickets are now officially available for The Night of Promise, our first-ever fundraising gala!

Jubilee USA Monthly Calls
Dear Mount Tabor Lutheran Church,
This is Robert Ladao, the Development and Executive Associate for Jubilee this spring.
With the United States preparing to host the first G20 since 2009, Jubilee efforts are shaping key conversations on the global agenda. As we look ahead, we are mobilizing Jubilee faith communities and congregations to press world leaders to make stronger commitments on debt relief for global economic stability, job growth and poverty alleviation at home and abroad.

Dear Friends and Colleagues,
This Saturday, August 29, Crossroads Urban Center will be holding its annual poverty summit at the Cathedral Church of St. Mark, beginning at 9:00 AM. This year's poverty summit will be a bit different that ones we have held in prior years because it will be followed by candidate forums on the following Thursdays:
On September 3rd at 6:30 PM, at Christ United Methodist Church, we will be holding a forum about some of the issues discussed at the poverty summit with the two major party candidates for Utah's new Congressional District 1-- Democrat Ben McAdams and Republican Riley Owen, and
On September 10th at 6:30 PM, at Hilltop United Methodist Church, we will be holding a candidate forum discussing some of the issues raised at the poverty summit with the two major party candidates to represent Salt Lake County Council At Large District A-- Republican Kathleen Anderson and Democrat Zach Robinson.
Here are six more reasons to attend the poverty summit on Saturday:
The summit will take place inside the Cathedral Church of St, Mark in downtown Salt Lake City. The Cathedral is a historic and beautiful building that is worth visiting if you have not been there before.
The summit gives you a chance to meet other people who care about hunger and homelessness in Utah and are working together on solutions to those problems,
The summit will include a discussion about how new work requirements for Medicaid and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program are impacting low income people in our state with officials from Utah's Department of Health and Human Services and Department of Workforce Services,
We will also have a discussion about what changes are being made to homeless services with representatives from the Utah Office of Homeless Services , Salt Lake County Mayor's Office and the Salt Lake City Mayor's Office,
The Rev. Elizabeth Hunter from the Cathedral and Rev. Kelsie Parrish from First United Methodist and Centenary United Methodist Church will be presenting the ethical dimensions of how society treats low income and marginalized people, and
You can help us present Hellraiser Awards to:
a) Jerry Schmidt for his work fighting to preserve a program that provides property tax relief for low income seniors , and,
b) Deeda Seed for the work she has done in the past year to form a coalition to block the construction of a massive detention center for homeless people on wetlands in Salt Lake City.
